Prevention Care Team

Prevention is always better than a cure, Rocky Bay Child and Family Services supports Rocky Bay members and affiliates following our services model that is cultured based and respects the values of our people, the extended families and the right to self-determination. Our services are based on the community level needs and wants that they see make our community and people strong and self- dependent. We have a wide range of employees that see our vision and are committed to working with our people to advocate, intervene and build strong community support.

Band Representative

Acts on behalf of the First Nation in providing support and guidance with our members following the Rocky Bay Child and Family Services service model. The Band Representative will ensure that customary care is the first option for families when dealing with Child Welfare. We can work with families to take preventative measures by assisting and providing ongoing support to ensure children remain in community and or that families remain together.

Youth Liaison

Promotes educational services and advocates for Rocky Bay First Nation Youth to ensure that their voices and needs are being met. The Youth Liaison Worker provides a safe environment for young members to come and learn music, cooking classes, crafting, and 1:1 to engage with youth and bring their voice to the table. Following our Service model to ensure that holistically the best interest of each youth is empowered and as access to supports to reach their goals.

Family Services

Provide frontline support in the community and support families or individuals in crisis. Promote healthy lifestyle by educating in programs or ensuring that community members are supported with basic needs. Family support workers will advocate and respond to crises while involving the clients/families to ensure active participation in needs being met.

Social Repatriation

Following our service model Social Repatriation worker works closely with the Band Representative to identify and provide support services that will ensure that our members are being guided and mentored. These may include, family reconciliation, emergency and long-term housing, physical and mental health services, transportation, legal services, employment services, educational supports, cultural resources, life skills training, and establishing or mending connection to the community.

Prevention

Rocky Bay Child and Family Services provides a prevention worker in both location sites to ensure that the essentials are being met for our people. Our goal is to prevent and intervene with supports that are geared to the needs of families or individuals. Programs: transportation, advocate, community activities to keep members and affiliates active

Parenting Support

Provides effective preventative support services for parents and caregivers of BZA with a holistic and family focused approach. Services include home visits, providing resources, advocacy, referrals and programming. Programs include food giveaways, assist with budgeting and shopping, group and individual cooking and crafts for healing and wellness. We meet the family where they are at by collaborating with the parent to set & accomplish goals, build resiliency and strengthen life/parenting skills.

Early Childhood Intervention

Assist and work alongside parents and caregivers from prenatal to 6 years and their families to identify early intervention strategies, build educational/informing/learning activities related to parenting, nutrition and culture. Provide opportunities for a healthy child development through home visiting, service coordination, parenting groups, cultural teaching, traditions, and referrals.

Cultural Coordinator

Maintaining and strengthening cultural continuity is a prime goal in our service model. Our goal is to foster an environment that is culturally safe and welcoming, incorporating Indigenous traditional, spiritual, and cultural practices, ceremonies, and teachings for the community and individuals. We take a holistic and culturally based approach, providing home visits and support to deliver educational programming through our agency and partnering with our elders committee and other service providers.

Family Coordinator

The Family Coordinator ensures the needs of children/youth/families are being met by working collaboratively with all the programs to ensure positive community and family experiences and is aligned with the agency’s mission, vision, and values. Our family coordinator administers the effective delivery of quality support to our families plan on care and securing wrap-around services for individuals and families of BZA.

Prenatal/Infant Care

Our Prenatal Support Program is a voluntary service that supports pregnant women and partners of BZA to ensure their well-being and that of their baby. Referrals of the program may include a range of topics, such as support for preparation of birth and baby, nutrition, moss bag making and other various cultural teachings. Service can begin at any stage of the pregnancy and can continue until birth and through infancy. The focus is on the mother and family’s strengths through individual and group programming.
